2 Over Hyped Picks at Wide Receiver
2 overhyped pics at wide receiver that could let fantasy owners down in 2023. Now these guys are still going to put up numbers but I just don’t believe they’re going to put up the kind of numbers of where they are being drafted right now.
#2 – Ceedee Lamb – Part of the reason Lamb will not put up top five wide receiver numbers is the fact that Dak Prescott is not an elite quarterback. Lamb will have some good games but just doesn’t have the stability to do it on a consistent basis. Brandin Cooks being added as a veteran Target for Prescott will also take away opportunities. A healthy Michael Gallup will also eat away those opportunities. I look for Lambs target percentage to drop this year and be under 110. If Lamb falls in your lap in the third round then he’s still probably worth the pick but I am taking guys like Am’ron St. Brown, AJ Brown, and Garrett Wilson over him this year, with whom I can probably pair with a top RB the round before I take them.
#1 – Justin Jefferson – Jefferson was an absolute STUD in 2022. Last year in my big money draft ! was able to select him at pick 6 after a run of running backs. This year Jefferson is being taken as early as 1st off the board. Truth is nobody repeats as the #1 wide receiver in fantasy, and even though I wouldn’t put it past Jefferson, the odds are not in his favor. With Jamar Chase arguably being the 1A receiver this year and the consistency of Cooper Kupp over the past few years I’m not drafting Jefferson too early. He has the 23rd hardest schedule for wide receivers and with Thielen moving to Carolina in the offseason I believe this will hurt Jefferson a little with more coverages geared totally at him. Kirk Cousins had his best season of his career and the odds of him coming back to earth are better than not, the non-threat of Dalvin Cook will also allow defenses to gear toward more pass heavy schemes to limit Jefferson and make someone else beat them. I’m not saying don’t draft Jefferson but I’m not taking him unless he falls to me at pick 11-12.
